MDwise Works To Decrease The Number Of Uninsured

Last updated on Friday, November 2, 2018

(UNDATED) - A new survey by the United States Census indicates that more than half-a-million Hoosiers lack health insurance. While that is a dramatic improvement over 2013 - when it was estimated that nearly 1 million Indiana residents were without coverage - it shows virtually no improvement over 2016.

Although not all 500,000 Hoosiers without health insurance qualify for Medicaid, many will. November 1 through December 15 traditionally marks the open enrollment period for commercial health insurance plans and the Health Insurance Marketplace, and it is also the time when Medicaid recipients can change their health plan. Uninsured Hoosiers who qualify for Medicaid can also sign up for 2019 health coverage through the Healthy Indiana Plan (HIP) during this time. In addition to launching a multimedia campaign, MDwise will be available in the community during this period to help educate current HIP members and uninsured Hoosiers on the process.

"The Healthy Indiana Plan makes health insurance affordable and accessible," said Hollie Arruda, director of marketing for MDwise. "We have outreach representatives in communities throughout the state ready to meet one-on-one with people and put them in touch with the right resources."
