(OAKTOWN) - The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) will host a public hearing on Wednesday, November 14, 2018, at the Oaktown Community Center, 103 East 3rd Street, Oaktown, Indiana, 47561 at 6 p.m. (local time).
The purpose of the public hearing is to offer all interested persons an opportunity to comment on current design plans for two US 41 proposed intersection improvements: one located at Old US 41, and the other at Freelandville Road/Maple Avenue, both in Knox County.
The intent of the projects is to improve safety by eliminating the through movements crossing US 41 on Freelandville Road/Maple Avenue and Old US 41. The proposal will also eliminate the left-turning movements from Freelandville Road/Maple Avenue and Old US 41 onto US 41, thereby also removing left turn movements from US 41 onto those minor roads.
The preferred alternative proposes to convert the existing at-grade intersections to Median U-Turn configurations, therefore, eliminating the through and left-turning movements. This alternative will remove the crossovers at the existing intersections and the placement of U-turns within the median immediately north and south of both intersections with dedicated U-turn lanes to allow for queuing and deceleration. All improvements will remain within the existing right-of-way.
Single lane closures will be required during construction, however, the proposal will not include road closures or detours. Access to properties will be maintained at all times during construction.
