IHS Hosts Sugarplum Breakfast Featuring Nutcracker Characters

Last updated on Wednesday, November 14, 2018

(INDIANAPOLIS) -The Indiana Historical Society (IHS) invites guests to a Nutcracker family affair. The Sugarplum Breakfast takes place Sunday, Dec. 2, at the Eugene and Marilyn Glick Indiana History Center, located at 450 W. Ohio St. in downtown Indianapolis. The special event runs from 10 a.m. to noon, with doors then opening to the public from noon to 5 p.m.

The Sugarplum Breakfast features treats and sweets, as well as photo opportunities with characters from The Nutcracker. In addition, families can create special holiday crafts to take home. After breakfast, guests are welcome to visit IHS's popular Festival of Trees exhibit before it opens to the Sunday crowd.

This year, Festival of Trees features 80 elaborately decorated trees, plus a 30-foot showstopper in Eli Lilly Hall. The exhibit, which runs Nov. 16 through Jan. 5, offers visitors the chance to vote for their favorite trees, spy The Elf on the Shelf and locate the Weihnachtzgurke, 10 pickle ornaments hidden in trees throughout the building.

Following the Sugarplum Breakfast, featured dancers from The Dance Refinery in Indianapolis will perform their unique interpretations from The Nutcracker. Performances are at 12:30 and 2 p.m. in the History Center's Frank and Katrina Basile Theater.

The Sugarplum Breakfast is supported by The Dance Refinery, Brickhouse Coffee and Mod Pizza. Admission is $30 for adults, $22 for youth and free for kids (3 and under). Special pricing is available for IHS members.

The Sugarplum Breakfast is one of several programs hosted by IHS this holiday season. Visit Saturday, Dec. 1, and receive free admission to IHS's annual Holiday Author Fair, which runs from noon to 4 p.m. In addition, guests can imbibe in craft brews at Good Beers and Ugly Sweaters on Thursday, Dec. 13, or channel Ralphie at A Christmas Story Day on Saturday, Dec. 22.
