(TERRE HAUTE) - The Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office says a discarded cigarette butt has led to the arrest of a West Terre Haute man on Burglary charges.

The cigarette butt was left behind at the scene of a residential burglary between Carlisle and Pleasantville.

Lab tests confirmed the DNA found on the cigarette was linked to 33-year-old Kyle Starkey of West Terre Haute.

The burglary victims said they did not know Starkey, and that he had no reason for being inside their home or on their property.

Investigators obtained additional information, which leads to the recovery of several of the stolen firearms.

Starkey is facing charges of burglary and theft.

He is currently being held in the White County, Illinois detention center on unrelated federal drug charges.
