Arts Commission Seeks Host Community For 2020 Arts Homecoming

Last updated on Monday, November 26, 2018

(INDIANAPOLIS) - The Indiana Arts Commission (IAC) announced today it is accepting proposals from Hoosier communities interested in hosting the 2020 Indiana Arts Homecoming.

"We had more than 300 people from more than 40 Indiana counties attend the 2018 Indiana Arts Homecoming," said IAC Deputy Director Miah Michaelsen. "It's Indiana's only statewide arts conference and a great opportunity to learn, connect and network with folks working to advance the arts in our state. We are now looking for a new partner community to host the 2020 conference."

The annual two-day statewide convening was launched in 2017 in Indianapolis to bring together the state's arts community and stimulate opportunities to inspire, evoke creativity, and bring together people to make the arts central to the quality of life. Learning sessions provide opportunities for artists, arts organizations, arts educators, elected officials, community development and tourism professionals to learn field-driven best practices from across the state and around the nation.

In 2018 the conference was hosted at the Arts United of Greater Fort Wayne downtown Arts Campus. In 2019, the conference will return to the Indianapolis area, but the Arts Commission is planning ahead to take the 2020 Homecoming back to a community in another part of the state.

"From our local partner, Arts United of Greater Fort Wayne, to our primary sponsor, the Community Foundation of Greater Fort Wayne, we could not have asked for greater community support of our statewide conference," Michaelsen added. "Now we are looking forward to 2020 when we again hope to partner with an Indiana community as committed to and supportive of the arts."

The 2020 Arts Homecoming will require a conference center or similar venue capable of accommodating 300 or more people, and local lodging available for that number of attendees. As in 2018, the 2020 Arts Homecoming will also include hosting the Indiana Governor's Arts Awards, a biennial event recognizing significant contributions to the arts in the state

"The 2020 Indiana Arts Homecoming and Governor's Arts Awards would provide an opportunity for an Indiana city to showcase its own arts community and quality of place, and be a focal point for increasing awareness of the arts and their impact on the lives of Hoosiers in communities of all sizes," Michaelsen said.

Communities interested in hosting the 2020 Indiana Arts Homecoming and Governor's Arts Awards should contact Miah Michaelsen at 317-232-1286 or email mmichaelsen@iac.in.gov.
