Off-Road Vehicle Accident Results in Serious Bodily Injury in Pike County

(PIKE CO.) - Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating an off-road vehicle (ORV) accident that occurred in Pike County on Sunday at approximately 8:19 p.m.

Terry Jones, 56, of Petersburg was operating a 2012 Honda TRX420 in the 2600 block of E 475 North in Pike County when his vehicle reportedly struck a dog. Mr. Jones lost control of the vehicle causing it to roll over. Jones and his passenger, Candace Parks, 39, of Huntingburg were ejected from the vehicle.

Both were both transported by helicopter to Deaconess Hospital in Evansville. Jones sustained serious bodily injuries and remains in critical condition. Parks was treated and released from the hospital.

No safety equipment was used in the incident. Alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor.

Indiana Conservation Officers recommend always wearing a helmet when operating or riding an ORV, and always following manufacturer recommendations for operation.

Responding agencies include the following: Pike County Sheriff's Department, Petersburg Police Department, Petersburg Volunteer Fire Department, Pike County EMS, Air Evac, and Indiana Conservation Officers.
