Marathon Removing Old Storage Tanks In Southern Indiana

Last updated on Tuesday, October 30, 2018

(CLARKSVILLE) - Marathon Petroleum is removing old storage tanks from a site in southern Indiana, encouraging hopes for future redevelopment at the property.

The News and Tribune reports town of Clarksville Building Commission granted a permit this month for the demolition of tanks, which is ongoing. An environmental services company was contracted to do the work. Operations at the property ended in 2009, and the pumping facility and tanks were decommissioned.

Marathon hasn't disclosed its plans for the property.

Clarksville Redevelopment Director Dylan Fisher says he hopes the site will soon be purchased for redevelopment. This year, Clarksville received a $440,000 grant from the Environmental Protection Agency to prepare properties along the Ohio River for redevelopment, but Fisher says that's not specifically for the Marathon site.
