Crews Rescue Injured Man At Southern Indiana's Falls Of The Ohio

Last updated on Thursday, October 25, 2018

(CLARKSVILLE) - A man found injured beneath a southern Indiana bridge was rescued during an hours-long operation along a slippery, debris-filled riverbank.

Clarksville Fire Chief Brandon Skaggs says firefighters faced dangerous conditions during Wednesday's three-hour rescue along the Falls of the Ohio that ended after the man was pulled to safety in a rescue basket tethered to ropes.

Skaggs says the terrain beneath the railroad bridge where railroad workers found the injured man included treacherous layers of driftwood and mud.

The injured man was alert when he was rescued and taken a hospital with unknown injuries.

Skaggs said Wednesday his office was working with Clarksville police and railroad officials to determine how the man ended up injured in an apparent fall.

Messages seeking comment were left Thursday with Clarksville police.
