Endangered Species Chocolate (ESC) is a top-selling premium chocolate company headquartered in Indianapolis.

"We are thrilled that Curt has joined our board," said Mary McConnell, state director for the Conservancy's Indiana Chapter. "Our board members are business leaders from across Indiana that advise us on where and how to tackle big conservation issues facing Indiana and the world. I look forward to working with Curt as he brings a unique blend of business acumen along with a deep understanding of the issues facing endangered species and their habitats."

ESC is a mission-driven company that annually gives back 10% of its net profits to conservation-minded organizations. The company, which celebrates 25 years in operation in 2018, has donated more than $1.4 million to wildlife causes over the last three years.

The alignment between Vander Meer's organization and the Nature Conservancy is apparent, as both companies share the mission to protect the world's most vital species.

"The Conservancy's strong commitment to protecting species and habitat in Indiana is something that aligns with me both personally and professionally," Vander Meer said. "I'm honored to be named to its board in Indiana and I look forward to working with the leadership to conserve the lands and waters we call home."

Vander Meer lives in Indianapolis with his wife Lisa and their three children. He holds a bachelor's degree from Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
