(INDIANAPOLIS) - The Marion County Public Health Department is reporting the first death from West Nile virus since 2012.
The agency did not disclose any details about the victim in reporting the death Monday. It says it's the only confirmed human case of the virus in Marion County this year.
The agency says West Nile is a virus most commonly spread to people by mosquito bites in the summer and fall.
Most people infected don't have symptoms. About one in five who are infected develop a fever with other symptoms such as a headache, body aches, joint pains, vomiting, diarrhea, or rash. Most of those recover completely, but fatigue and weakness can last for weeks or months.
