(Tell City) - Gary Scott, timber sale administrator, was recently selected as the employee of the quarter for the Hoosier National Forest.

Gary was chosen for the incredible job he did while detailed into the silviculturist position. Silviculture is the practice of controlling the establishment, growth, composition, health, and quality of forests to meet diverse needs and values.

Silviculturists focus on making sure that the treatments of forest stands are used to preserve and to better their productivity. He was able to cover those duties with limited supervision while the certified silviculturist was on leave and kept the timber and prescribed fire program moving along toward the annual targets. He did this while he was carrying out the duties of his regular position, including covering active sales and helping the timber section to improve efficiencies in volume estimation.

Shortly thereafter, Scott received a performance award, along with two colleagues, Jason Combs and Mike Fenn. This team, comprising the timber section for the forest, was able to meet their timber target for fiscal 2018 prior to any other national forest in the eastern region, which includes 12 states with national forest system lands. They are already working hard towards their 2019 goal.
