(FRANKFORT) - The Indiana Court of Appeals has ruled a central Indiana woman will stand trial as an adult for charges stemming from a crash when she was 17 that killed two sisters in their home.
The Lafayette Journal & Courier reports the ruling Monday means Alia Sierra, now 18, will be tried on charges including reckless homicide, causing death while operating a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs, criminal recklessness and criminal mischief.
The July 13, 2017 crash killed 17-year-old Haleigh and 9-year-old Callie Fullerton when Sierra's car crashed into the living room of their home near Frankfort. The girls' mother was also injured in the crash. A third child wasn't hurt.
Authorities have said Sierra had opiates in her system and was driving 107 mph when then crash occurred.
