(FRANKLIN) - A preliminary report on a mid-July helicopter crash near a small airport in central Indiana says the copter landed, fueled up and took off again before going down.
The Daily Journal reports the Federal Aviation Administration still is looking into the cause of the crash that injured pilot Richard L. Money. The FAA's report says that a witness reported a plume of white or grey smoke trailing behind it before the crash.
The crash happened July 15 in a field in Johnson County near the Franklin Flying Field. The helicopter was destroyed. The sheriff's office has said the pilot was found outside the helicopter and was described as conscious and alert when taken to the hospital.
The crash was near Franklin, about 20 miles (32 kilometers) southeast of Indianapolis.
