Police Say Suspect Used High-Power Pellet Gun To Shoot Seymour Girl

Last updated on Monday, August 13, 2018

(SEYMOUR) - Seymour Police believe the person who shot a 16-year-old girl late Wednesday used a high-power pellet gun.

Seymour Police Chief Bill Abbott says the teen was walking on Eighth Street between Park and Blish streets on the city's northeast side when she was shot on her right side below her arm.

Chief Abbott says they believe the shooter intended to shoot her saying it was a deliberate shot, but are unsure if she was the intended target or a target of opportunity.

After the shooting the girl went to Seymour Middle School where she met a friend who called 911 at 9:44 p.m. Wednesday.

The teen was taken to a local hospital for treatment and then taken to an Indianapolis Hospital where she had surgery in Indianapolis to remove the pellet.

The crime remains under investigation and anyone with information about the case is asked to call the Seymour Police Department at (812) 522-1234.
