Governor's Arts Awards Will Close 2018 Indiana Arts Homecoming

Last updated on Tuesday, August 7, 2018

(INDIANAPOLIS) - The Indiana Arts Commission (IAC) announced today that the 2018 Indiana Governor’s Arts Awards will be the closing event of this year’s Indiana Arts Homecoming statewide convening October 18 - 19, 2018 at the Arts Campus in downtown Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Presented in concert with a statewide steering committee, the 2018 Indiana Arts Homecoming marks the second year of the convening of the state's arts community. The inaugural event attracted artists, arts administrators, arts educators, tourism, economic and community development professionals, and elected officials from across the state.

"The Indiana Arts Homecoming provides an opportunity for anyone interested in learning more about how the arts can impact community vibrancy and enhance quality of place," said Lewis C. Ricci, IAC Executive Director. "Last year's event provided so many opportunities to learn new ideas to make the arts a central part of community planning. Participants left energized and ready to celebrate the arts in their communities. Ending this year's Homecoming with an awards program celebrating the arts is our state seemed a perfect finale."

The Governor's Arts Awards program will be held at Sweetwater Sound, Inc., Fort Wayne, Indiana and will honor the contributions of five recipients who will be announced in coming days. The awards will also, for the first time, feature a special recognition award to an emerging Indiana artist.

"This will also be the first time the awards have been presented at a private-sector arts-related business, and the largest creative industry employer in Indiana," Ricci said. "Sweetwater has a significant impact on quality of life in Fort Wayne and surrounding area, but those attending the Indiana Arts Homecoming will learn big ideas for communities of any size to benefit from having the arts as a central component of their community planning."
