Military Museum Closing Its Doors After More Than 25 Years

Last updated on Sunday, July 8, 2018

(ANDERSON) - A central Indiana military museum is closing its doors following the recent tax auction sale of its home of more than 25 years.

McClain's Historical Military Armor Museum faces an August deadline to vacate the property in Anderson, where its collection of tanks, aircraft and other items has been displayed since 1990.

The Herald Bulletin reports that museum founder Joe McClain is fighting the back taxes claim, and argues that the museum has been a nonprofit organization since its founding.

Much of the museum's property has been sent to other museums, but some items, including military cargo trucks and trailers, were scheduled to be sold at auction Saturday.

Museum manager John Krieg says the museum's closure will be a blow to the city that's about 30 miles northeast of Indianapolis.
