Man Shot by Police after Domestic Dispute Moved to Jail

Last updated on Thursday, July 12, 2018

(MUNCIE) - A central Indiana man who was shot and wounded by police after allegedly setting his home on fire during a domestic dispute has been moved to a local jail.

Fifty-six-year-old Gary Dale Mort of Muncie was transferred Monday from a hospital to the Delaware County Jail, where he's being held on preliminary charges of arson and intimidation. He remained held at the jail Wednesday on a $15,000 bond.

The Star Press reports Mort was shot by Muncie officers June 29 after he allegedly set his house on fire and then ignored demands to drop a gun he was holding.

Online court records don't list a lawyer for him.

An affidavit says Mort's wife ran to a neighbor's house and reported he was suicidal and had set their residence on fire.
