Last updated on Monday, July 2, 2018

(INDIANAPOLIS) - The Indiana Department of Homeland Security reminds Hoosiers impacted by the historic floods earlier this year that they have until Thursday, July 5, to apply for federal assistance.

To register for flood damage assistance, residents can go online at www.DisasterAssistance.gov/ or call the Federal Emergency Management Agency Helpline at 800-621-3362 for voice, 711 and Video Relay Service. If you are deaf, hard of hearing or have a speech disability and use a TTY, call 800-462-7585. Helpline numbers are open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. ET, (6 a.m. to 9 p.m. CT), seven days a week. You also may download the FEMA app for smartphones.

"(IDHS and FEMA) continue to get the word out to people across the state to apply by Thursday's deadline," said Erin Rowe, Indiana's state coordinating officer for the disaster. "State and federal resources can go a long way in helping Hoosiers recover from this historic event."

Background:

Indiana received a Major Disaster Declaration from President Trump on May 5 related to extreme rain and flooding that occurred Feb. 14-March 4. Since then, IDHS and the Federal Emergency Management Agency have continued to work directly with impacted residents and local governments to help them recover and rebuild.

To date, more than $3.4 million has been approved for Individual Assistance among the 2,660 people who applied. The Public Assistance element of the disaster continues, with local governments applying for funds to help repair roads, government buildings and infrastructure.

In addition, the Small Business Association has processed 2,379 applications for assistance and approved more than $4.1 million in low-interest loans for repairs. The SBA helps businesses, private nonprofit organizations, homeowners and renters fund repairs or rebuilding efforts and cover the cost of replacing lost or disaster-damaged personal property. If you need help completing your loan application call the SBA at 800-659-2955 (TTY 800-877-8339) or send an email to DisasterCustomerService@sba.gov.
