Body Of Missing Merrillville Woman Recovered From Lake Michigan

(GARY) - Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating the disappearance of 24-year-old Tiara Hardy, of Merrillville, after she was last seen struggling in the waters of Lake Michigan off the shore of Miller Beach.

Indiana Conservation Officers located the body of Tiara Hardy on a side scan sonar image at approximately 5:30 p.m. Tuesday. The image was confirmed by the Lake County Marine Unit sonar and divers from the Hobart Fire Department were requested to dive and visually confirm.

A Hobart Fire Department diver dove on the sonar mark and recovered Hardy's body shortly after 6 p.m. approximately 150 yards from shore while Gary Fire and Police provided shore support.

The Lake County Marine Unit transported her body to a nearby location to transfer her to the Lake County Coroner's Office.

The investigation is still ongoing and no foul play is suspected.

This was a multi-agency effort and participating agencies include: Gary Police Department, Gary Fire Department, Gary Police Chaplains, Gary Lifeguards, Lake County Sheriff's Office Marine Unit, Lake County Sheriff's Office Aviation Unit, Hobart Fire Department, Portage Fire Department, and Lake County Emergency Management Agency.
