American Legion Names Charlestown Resident National Guard Military Person Of The Year

(INDIANAPOLIS) - The votes are in and The American Legion, Department of Indiana has named Charlestown resident, Indiana National Guard Master Sergeant Christopher B. Knight the 2018 National Guard, Military Person of the Year.

MSgt. Knight was sponsored by Charlestown Post 335 in the 8th District.

"American Legion officers selected knight because he exemplifies what a member of the United States Military should be, both in and out of uniform," said 8th District Cmdr. Larry French.

Knight says that he Joined the Air National Guard to answer the call of our nation. He joined in May of 2000 where he became an Aircraft Maintenance Journeyman Apprentice at Sheppard Air Force Base in Texas.

While he has been in the National Guard, he has deployed numerous time for both humanitarian efforts like Hurricane relief after Hurricanes Katrina and Gustav and to battlefields in overseas theaters during Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. He is a member of Post 335 in Charlestown, Indiana, where he is considered a strong volunteer for his post.

He has earned the rank of Master Sergeant and is currently serving as a Crew Chief for the 123rd Aircraft Maintenance Squadron.
