2018 Indiana Archaeology Month Commemorative Posters Now Available

Last updated on Monday, July 30, 2018

(INDIANAPOLIS) - This year’s poster design features artifacts which were recovered from archaeological sites in Indiana. Items such as these can provide insights into the lives of children and adults, in particular regarding what would have been available for play in Hoosier homes of the past.

Artifacts represented include (clockwise, from top): Die-cast metal miniature racing car; porcelain doll head; bone domino; molded plastic toy soldier; glazed stoneware Bennington "Fancy" marble; yellowware toy chamber pot; porcelain figurine; molded plastic toy dinosaur; high-fired decorated clay marble; wooden die; die-cast metal miniature steam locomotive; and metal toy Ford car hubcap. To learn more, go to www.in.gov/dnr/historic/4289.htm.

Images/artifacts are courtesy of: AECOM; Department of Anthropology, University of Indianapolis; DNR, Division of Forestry; DNR, Division of Historic Preservation and Archaeology; DNR, McCormick's Creek State Park; Indiana State Museum and Historic Sites; McCullough Archaeological Services, LLC; and University of Southern Indiana.

If you would like a poster, feel free to stop in at the DHPA office at 402 W. Washington Street, Room W274, Indianapolis, IN. DHPA archaeologists will also be taking the posters, which are free of charge, to the Archaeology Month events which they will be participating in. For example, posters will be available at the Archaeology Roadshow (Aug. 18) at the upcoming Indiana State Fair.

Please note that this year we will not be offering t-shirts as an Archaeology Month commemorative product.
