Northwest Indiana Green Party To Hold Peace Rally In Highland

Last updated on Thursday, June 7, 2018

(HIGHLAND) - The Northwest Indiana Green Party will hold a Voices of Peace rally this Saturday, June 9 at the Veterans Memorial Park in Highland from noon to 2 p.m.

The Indiana Green Party calls for the development of alternative solutions to violence. We recognize that peace is not just the absence of violence, it's a willingness to resolve conflict in a constructive manner and to develop alternatives to society's current patterns of violence.

It is essential that we develop effective alternatives to our current patterns of violence at all levels, from the family to the streets, to nations and the world. We will work to demilitarize our society and eliminate weapons of mass destruction, without being naive about the intentions of other governments. We recognize the need for self defense and the need to defend others who are in helpless situations. We promote nonviolent methods to oppose practices and policies with which we disagree, and will guide our actions toward lasting personal, community, and global peace.

Featured speakers include the Indiana Green Party's Secretary of State Candidate, George Wolfe; Matthew Paskash, founding member of Anti-War Committee in Solidarity with the Struggles for Self-Determination; and Eatka Kamal, of Progressive Democrats of America Calumet Region.

The Indiana Green Party strives to live by the values of the Green movement. Everything the Party does is based on the four pillars: Democracy, Ecological Wisdom, Nonviolence, and Social Justice.

The Northwest Indiana Green Party will hold a monthly on Sunday, June 10th at the South Bend Chocolate Cafe, 57 Franklin Street in Valparaiso from 1 p.m. - 3 p.m.
