Remains Found In Morton Identified As Missing Man

Last updated on Wednesday, June 27, 2018

(MORTON) - Authorities say skeletal remains found in April in western Indiana have been identified as those of a man reported missing in November 2016.

Indiana State Police announced Tuesday that foul play isn't suspected in the death of William Wayne Johansen of Putnam County, but cause of death hasn't been determined. Police say he was 50 years old at the time he was reported missing.

Authorities say DNA was used to confirm Johansen's identity.

Police say a mushroom hunter alerted them in April to the possible remains in northwestern Putnam County near woods in the Van Bibber Lake area about 40 miles (64 kilometers) west of Indianapolis. Detectives, the county coroner and others investigated at the scene.
