Record Breaking Milestone: One Million Kids Now Registered For Kids Skate Free Program

Last updated on Thursday, June 7, 2018

(INDIANAPOLIS) - The Roller Skating Association International, the official voice of the roller skating industry, is thrilled to announce that the Kids Skate Free program has reached a milestone record - more than one million kids have now registered to receive two free roller skating passes weekly for their participating home rink.

To celebrate this milestone, the one millionth child, Zion Curry, and the rink that registered the child (SkateCenter West in Murfreesboro, Tennessee) will be receiving prize packs with products donated from organizations around the country.

The Kids Skate Free program encourages children to stay active and fit by offering them two opportunities every week to visit their local participating roller skating rink. RSA President, Jeff Couey, is thrilled with the program and its ability to spread the joy and benefits of roller skating to families around the globe. A rink owner himself of several Sparkles Skate Centers in Georgia, Couey utilizes the program to encourage kids to be active all year round.

"Childhood obesity is a concern that continues to grow. Technology discourages children to get out and enjoy the usual fun activities that we participated in when we were young. Roller skating is an activity that burns calories, builds muscle and reinforces self-confidence and socialization - all things kids need to grow up healthy and strong."

The Roller Skating Association is committed to health and fitness by encouraging member roller skating centers to offer free passes through KidsSkateFree.com, a program offered for free to all Association members. The program now serves one million kids and has helped skating centers increase attendance nationwide. The growth of this program is a true testament to the resurgence of roller skating and is a win for parents' wallets and the health of children everywhere.

A few fun facts about roller skating:

Parents who wish to participate may visit www.kidsskatefree.com and click on their state to begin finding their participating roller skating center and register to receive free passes. If your local roller skating center does not participate, the RSA encourages parents to notify their rink that they would like them to participate by downloading the letter available at https://kidsskatefree.com/images/letter.pdf and providing to their local rink.
