(INDIANAPOLIS) - The Indiana Region of the American Red Cross has appointed Kaleena Wright as the new Regional Volunteer Services Officer, beginning July 2, 2018.

Wright has been working with the Red Cross for ten years and has extensive experience working with volunteers and disaster relief in the nonprofit sector.

"We are all very excited that Kaleena is joining our team," said Chad Priest, regional CEO of the Indiana Region of the American Red Cross, "Her experience working with Red Cross volunteers and dedication to service makes her a great addition to our chapter."

In her ten-year tenure, Kaleena has transitioned from AmeriCorps member to volunteer to paid staff. She originally joined the Red Cross as an AmeriCorps VISTA member in 2007, supporting Homeland Security initiatives. After the successful completion of her term, she maintained her connection with the Red Cross as a volunteer, joining chapters in Illinois, Maryland and Mississippi, as she moved around the country.

In 2011, Wright started as a Red Cross employee as an Emergency Services Specialist in Central Illinois. Since then, she has worked in both Disaster and Volunteer Services. Most recently, Kaleena was the Disaster Workforce Engagement Manager for the Chicago and Northern Illinois Region. During that time, she supported 1200 volunteers across a 21-county area and deployed several times to response to various disasters.

"Red Cross volunteers are selfless individuals who are passionate about serving and building resilient communities," said Wright. "I'm happy that I'll be able to continue my career with the Red Cross in the Indiana Region working with those who commit so much to the mission."

Wright, who places a high value on service and community support, is a Certified Nonprofit Professional (CNP) through the Nonprofit Leadership Alliance. She holds a Bachelor's degree in English from Truman State University.
