Last updated on Tuesday, June 19, 2018

(INDIANAPOLIS) - The Indiana Historical Society (IHS) invites guests to beat the summer heat while exploring democracy, civics and government this Fourth of July holiday.

On Wednesday, July 4, IHS will offer free admission to all exhibits, as well as special activities with the theme "out of many, one!" The Eugene and Marilyn Glick Indiana History Center, located at 450 W. Ohio St. in downtown Indianapolis, will be open during its regular operating hours of 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Activities will include the chance to pass a citizenship test, make a campaign button, design a flag and write letters to members of the U.S. Armed Forces. With help from the organization A Million Thanks, IHS will send the letters to service members at home, abroad or recovering from injury.

Independence Day guests can sing along with patriotic tunes performed live in the Cole Porter Room or enjoy a showing of Schoolhouse Rock!: Election Collection in the Frank and Katrina Basile Theater.

In addition, guests are encouraged to take full advantage of free admission and tour the Indiana Experience, featuring IHS's newest offering, Indianapolis Colts: The Exhibit, presented by the Indianapolis Colts with support from Plow Digital. The exhibit uses digital activities, artifacts, player interviews, photographs, videos and more to celebrate the team while also exploring football's role in American culture.

In honor of the holiday, the History Center's Stardust Terrace Café is offering patriotic cookies, along with its regular menu. Complimentary parking is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
