Boater Finds Body Of Missing Man

(TIPPECANOE RIVER) - Indiana Conservation Officers were notified that a boater had located a body on the Tippecanoe River near Arrow Point Court in White County.

This is south of the State Road 18 Bridge and approximately six miles (river miles) downstream from where witnesses reported seeing a swimmer disappear below the surface of the water on Sunday morning.

Conservation Officers responded to the area and recovered the body.

Family has been notified and confirm photographs of tattoos from the recovered body match those of Michael Bane.

The White County Coroner will work to confirm the identity and determine the official cause of death.

Earlier - Indiana Conservation Officers are now investigating a missing person case.

The missing person is believed to be the man witnesses observed disappear below the water yesterday on the Tippecanoe River.

37-year-old Michael S. Bane of Battle Ground has not been seen or heard from by family and friends since Sunday around 7:30 a.m.

It is believed Bane intended to swim across the river to a friends house. It should be noted that nobody saw Bane enter the water, Witness descriptions are similar to descriptions provided by the family.

Michael Bane was last seen wearing green pants and a tan shirt. He is described as 6'1" and 170 pounds. His hair is now longer than depicted in the photo. Investigatory are asking if anyone has been in contact with Bane since Sunday morning, to contact DNR Law Enforcement Dispatch at 812-837-9536.

Indiana Conservation Officers are continuing to search the Tippecanoe River by boat.
