Prepare Now For The 2018 Nonprofit Security Grant Program

(INDIANAPOLIS) - The 2018 Nonprofit Security Grant Program (NSGP) will be opening soon, and IDHS is providing the 2017 information to allow interested applicants to begin preparing for the upcoming application period.

This year, funds available to nonprofit organizations are not limited Urban Area Security Initiative, or UASI-designated urban areas. This will allow any eligible nonprofit organization within Indiana to apply in the upcoming grant round.

An eligible nonprofit organization under the FY 2018 NSGP is:

An organization described under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986; and
Determined by the Secretary of Homeland Security to be at high risk of terrorist attack due to their ideology, beliefs, or mission.

Interested applicants are encouraged to plan ahead for the application period. Suggested activities include:

Sign up for email updates regarding the Nonprofit Security Grant Program. IDHS will announce the 2018 application period by email to groups that specifically have opted in to that mailing list.
Review the FY 2017 NSGP notice of funding opportunity for an understanding of the previous year's application process, required forms and scoring criteria.
Gather and review findings from previously conducted threat and/or vulnerability assessments by local law enforcement.
Begin gathering necessary paperwork to support proposed projects.
Obtain a Data Universal Numbering System (DUNS) number, and register and/or maintain current status in the System for Award Management (SAM). It may take four weeks or more after submission for the registration to become active in SAM and an additional 24 hours for grants.gov to recognize the information. This can be done online at http://www.grants.gov/web/grants/register.html.
