(INDIANAPOLIS) - The Marion County Judicial Selection Committee (MCJSC) announced nine finalists to fill three upcoming judicial vacancies.
The Committee selected the following finalists:
For the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Michael Keele:
For the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Becky Pierson-Treacy:
The nine finalists will be submitted to Governor Eric Holcomb for consideration. He will name the Marion County judges. Under state law, the MCJSC must submit to the Governor a list of candidates. Upon receiving the list of nominees, Governor Holcomb has 60 days in which to make appointments to the Marion County courts.
Three vacancies will occur when the terms for Judge Thomas Carroll, Michael Keele, and Becky Pierson-Treacy expire on December 31, 2018. The new judges will take office in January. In March, the MCJSC announced they would accept applications until April 9. On May 21-23, the Committee publicly interviewed forty candidates and then met in executive session to deliberate.
The 14-member Committee was established by the Indiana General Assembly in 2017 and is chaired by Indiana Supreme Court Justice Mark Massa with Indiana Court of Appeals Judge Cale Bradford as vice-chairman. Indiana code sec. 33-33-49-13.1 to 33-33-49-13.7 provides the framework for the duties and membership of the Committee.
