Last updated on Wednesday, May 9, 2018

(INDIANAPOLIS) - The Judicial Nominating Commission will conduct public interviews of six finalists for a vacancy on the Court of Appeals of Indiana.

The interviews will take place on Wednesday, May 16 in Room 319 of the Indiana State House. The interviews are open to the public and press, and the schedule is as follows:

Wednesday, May 16

(Break)

Members of the audience are asked to refrain from activities that might distract from the interview process. Questioning of the applicants is reserved for the Commission.

According to the Indiana Constitution and state statute, the seven-member Commission must recruit and select candidates to fill vacancies on Indiana appellate courts. Judge Michael Barnes is stepping down from the bench in early summer. Details about the vacancy for Court of Appeals District Three can be found online.

The Commission considers applicants' legal education, writings, reputation in the practice of law, and other pertinent information. After deliberation in executive session on May 16, the Commission will publicly vote to send three nominees to Governor Eric Holcomb. The Governor has 60 days from receiving the list to select Indiana's next Court of Appeals judge.
