"We are elated to have Courtney join our regional leadership team," said Chad Priest, regional CEO of the Indiana Region of the American Red Cross. "Courtney has an inspiring humanitarian spirit and brings a unique combination of corporate and non-profit experience that will make her a strong asset for our state."

Courtney joins the Indiana Region from Indianapolis Emergency Medical Services (IEMS), a division of Eskenazi Health, where since 2015, she has served the city of Indianapolis as Human Resources Section Chief. In this capacity, Courtney was responsible for establishing partnerships with community organizations, assisting with the development of strategic plans and providing human resources oversight and support to more than 300 public safety professionals.

Prior to joining IEMS, Courtney served as Chief of Staff of the MESH Coalition, a non-profit, public-private partnership, enabling health care organizations to respond effectively to disaster events and remain viable through recovery. During her time with MESH, Courtney led all financial management, federal and state grant supervision functions. She also led all operational management and support functions, including management of fleet and execution of strategic real-estate initiatives (which included identifying and acquiring a new office location and training space). Among her many successes at MESH, Courtney helped operational planning and execution of the National Healthcare Coalition Conference. Now in its fourth year, this national conference brings emergency response organizations together from across the nation to share best practices and bridge impact to communities.

Courtney began her career as a Legal Secretary at Faegre Baker Daniels, where she worked as a member of the Healthcare and Insurance teams. During her tenure at what was then Baker & Daniels, Courtney worked on high-profile projects, including the building of Lucas Oil Stadium and the 2011 Super Bowl bid package.

"Throughout my career, I have sought out organizations that focus on improving lives. Going to work every day, knowing that I am helping to make a difference, is the ultimate career satisfaction for me. The American Red Cross alleviates human suffering every day, and I am humbled to join this incredible movement," said VanJelgerhuis.

The Indiana Region serves 87 Indiana counties consisting of six Red Cross chapters: Central Indiana (Indianapolis headquarters), Northern Indiana (South Bend headquarters), Northeast Indiana (Fort Wayne headquarters), Northwest (Merrillville headquarters), Southern Indiana (Evansville headquarters) and West Central Indiana (Terre Haute headquarters).
