Fort Wayne Woman Dies after Riding Lawn Mower Overturns

Last updated on Friday, May 11, 2018

(FORT WAYNE) - A northeastern Indiana coroner says a woman died after her riding lawn mower overturned on an embankment, trapping her beneath it.

The Allen County Coroner said Friday that 69-year-old Sue Method of Fort Wayne died in Wednesday's accident.

WPTA-TV reports that Method was operating a riding lawnmower when it traveled down a steep embankment, rolled over and she became pinned underneath the machine. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The coroner says Method's cause of death was asphyxia due to chest compression. Her death was ruled an accident.

Federal safety officials say people operating riding lawn mowers should avoid mowing on slopes with an incline of more than 15 degrees.
