Last updated on Tuesday, May 1, 2018

(INDIANAPOLIS) - The Judicial Nominating Commission named six finalists for the Court of Appeals of Indiana judicial position. The Commission conducted public interviews of twelve applicants April 30 and May 1.

The following applicants will be invited to second interviews with the Commission on Wednesday, May 16.

Judge Michael Barnes is stepping down from the bench in early summer. According to the Indiana Constitution and state statute, the seven-member Commission must recruit and select candidates to fill vacancies on Indiana appellate courts. Applications and photographs of judges and lawyers who were interviewed for the position are available online. The Commission considers applicants' legal education, writings, reputation in the practice of law, and other pertinent information.

The Commission will interview the six finalists on Wednesday, May 16 in Room 319 of the Indiana State House. The Commission will then publicly vote to send three nominees to the Governor who has 60 days to select Indiana's next Court of Appeals judge.
