Last updated on Sunday, May 6, 2018

(INDIANAPOLIS) - Officials say a 7-year-old boy has drowned at a waterpark.

RTV6-TV reports the incident occurred about 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the Indy Island Aquatic Center at Raymond Park.

Just before 2:30 p.m., authorities were dispatched to the Indy Island Aquatic Center, located in the 8500 block of E. Raymond St., on the report of cardiac arrest.

The boy was transported to Riley Hospital where he later died. Authorities said a possible "medical situation" caused the boy to go under the water.

A lifeguard dove in and pulled the boy to the surface. CPR was initiated and an AED was used. 8 staff members were present at the time of the drowning, including 5 lifeguards. IFD has offered the assistance of their Peer Support team to assist staff members with critical incident de-briefing and support.

The pool has been closed to the public. Per usual scheduling, it will also be closed on Monday and Tuesday. At this time, it is not known if it will reopen on Wednesday.

No other information was immediately available.
