(WASHINGTON, D.C.) - This morning the House Republican Conference selected Congressman Jim Banks (IN-03) to serve on the House Committee on Education and the Workforce.
"I am proud to be named the newest member of the House Education and Workforce Committee," said Banks. "While we have made tremendous progress this Congress to grow the economy through tax cuts and regulatory rollback, there is still a critical need to fill the skills gap between training and available jobs. I look forward to serving as a voice for the many schools and colleges in northeast Indiana and ensuring our students have the tools, resources and access to quality education they need to succeed."
Chairwoman Virginia Foxx (NC-05) released the following statement:
"In his short time in Congress so far, Jim Banks has distinguished himself as a hard worker who looks for creative solutions, and that's exactly what we like at the Education and Workforce Committee. We are so pleased to welcome Congressman Banks, and I look forward to working with him on behalf of America's students, workers, and families."
Background:
Congressman Banks will serve on the Subcommittees on Health, Employment, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) and Higher Education and Workforce Development.
Banks served on the Education Committee for six years during his time in the Indiana State Senate. During his tenure, he co-authored Right to Work legislation and championed a number of higher education reform issues related to affordability, credit transfers and transparency.
Northeast Indiana is home to a number of public and independent colleges including Indiana University - Purdue University Fort Wayne, Trine University, Huntington University, Grace College and Theological Seminary, Indiana Institute of Technology, University of Saint Francis, and Ivy Tech Community College.
