Study Explores Future Of Alzheimer's Research And Detection

Last updated on Thursday, April 5, 2018

(INDIANAPOLIS) - Alzheimer’s disease is the sixth leading cause of death in Americans and affects over 110-thousand people in Indiana.

Michael Weiner, an expert on the disease, says a new study could revolutionize how doctors diagnose Alzheimer's.

Experts say the number of Indiana residents diagnosed with the disease could triple by 2050.

The ADNI Study, which stands for Alzheimer's Disease Neuroimaging Initiative, is looking for volunteers with and without memory problems.

Researchers use neuroimaging to see how the brain can change before and after being diagnosed with Alzheimer's.

Weiner says the study is helping researchers understand the progression of the disease and brings doctors one step closer to a cure.
