(INDIANAPOLIS) - It was a busy weekend for Hoosier Republicans as the Republican National Committee launched its first National Day of Action of 2018.
In a joint effort, the RNC and Indiana Republican Party held Republican Leadership Initiative trainings at over 10 locations statewide including Greenwood, South Bend, Schererville, Indianapolis, and Crawfordsville.

Congressman Trey Hollingsworth spoke at the Greenwood training, while Congresswoman Jackie Walorski delivered remarks in South Bend. Both Congressional Hoosier Republicans emphasized the importance of beginning to activate and engage the party base with the focus on building up their team of RLI fellows and leaders for the November election.

"With 100 new volunteers trained, over 15,000 phone calls made and 2,300 doors knocked on Saturday, this was the first major push in an effort to not only gain votes in November, but to gain and train new Republican Leadership Initiative fellows within their communities," said Indiana Communications Director Michael Joyce. "When we contact Hoosiers over the phone or in person, we have two goals; we want your vote in November, but we also want you to go through our RLI training and become a leader in your own community. With our new RLI fellows trained and actively building up their teams, we're in prime positioning to defy history and win big in November."

Saturday's message to Hoosiers was simple, said Joyce: "If you like the tax cut you got in December, vote Republican in November and join us to win up-and-down the ballot. Indiana Democrats have made it abundantly clear that repealing the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act would be one of their first orders of business should they take the House in 2018, and Senator Donnelly chose to vote against common sense tax reform."

With whispers of a possible blue wave coming in 2018, the RNC has one noticeable advantage; Republicans continue to pull in major fundraising hauls over compared to the Democrats, in turn giving them an edge on the ground. Party officials say they plan to spend upwards of $250 million on ground operations during the 2018 midterm cycle alone. The RNC has invested heavily in data and is in turn used in a robust ground operation.
