Jasper Carson's Store To Close

Last updated on Thursday, April 19, 2018

(JASPER) - Liquidation sales will start soon at all stores owned by Bon-Ton — including Carson’s department store in Jasper — Bon-Ton announced Wednesday in a press release.

The Dubois County Herald reports, the company announced the winning bid from a recent bankruptcy auction went to liquidators Great American Group LLC and Tiger Capital Group.

A Bankruptcy Court hearing to approve the sale and the wind-down of the company's operations was scheduled for this afternoon.

Bon-Ton President and CEO Bill Tracy said: "While we are disappointed by this outcome and tried very hard to identify bidders interested in operating the business as a going concern, we are committed to working constructively with the winning bidder to ensure an orderly wind-down of operations that minimizes the impact of this development on our associates, customers, vendors and the communities we serve. We are incredibly grateful to all of our associates for their dedicated service to Bon-Ton and to our millions of loyal customers who we have had the pleasure to serve as their hometown store for more than 160 years."

Bon-Ton owns Carson's, Bergner's, Herberger's, Elder-Beerman, Bon-Ton, Younkers and Boston Stores.

The Jasper Carson's opened as the Elder-Beerman brand in late 2000 at its current location in the Germantown Shopping Center on Jasper's north side.

The upcoming Carson's closure comes at a time of change for the retail landscape in Jasper. J.C. Penney closed last summer; it was located in the Jasper Manor Shopping Center. Office retailer Staples, which was located on the city's north side, also closed last year.

However, some new retail is on the horizon for the area. JOANN Fabrics will open in the Germantown Shopping Center in May and a Ross Dress for Less will open soon in Jasper's North Ridge Shopping Center.
