Crowdfunding campaign launched for the Middlefork Playground Project in Richmond

Last updated on Friday, April 13, 2018

(INDIANAPOLIS) - Richmond will soon have a brand new playground to enjoy at the Middlefork Reservoir, thanks to a recently launched crowdfunding campaign.

The campaign, sponsored by the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority (IHCDA) and offered through the crowdfunding platform developed by Patronicity is being run by the Richmond Parks and Recreation Department.

"Great potential lies on the banks of the beautiful Middlefork Reservoir in Richmond," said Lt. Governor Suzanne Crouch who serves as board chair of IHCDA. "We are excited to come alongside the City of Richmond in helping them take the first steps to activating this space and making this a destination for both residents and visitors alike."

If the campaign reaches its $50,000 goal by June 8th, the 'Middlefork...Make a SUPER Difference' campaign will receive a matching grant of $50,000 from IHCDA's CreatINg Places program.

The funding raised during this campaign will allow the Richmond Parks and Recreation Department to replace the 28-year-old obsolete playset with a modern playground at the Middlefork Reservoir. The playground will include educational elements that teach kids about water quality and the need for clean water initiatives. The Parks and Recreation Department views the playground as the first step in a total revitalization of the Middlefork Reservoir and the recreational opportunities it offers.

"We are excited to partner with Patronicity and IHCDA for the second time to gain momentum on our Supercharge Middlefork Campaign.," said Denise Retz, Parks Superintendent. "This area is a completely underused and an underestimated park with enormous potential. We have set this area as a priority in 2018 with the first step being bringing our families and children back to the park with a brand new educational playground with a focus on local water cycles."

Since the CreatINg Places program began last fall, projects have raised in excess of $1,140,000 in public funds and an additional $900,000 in matching IHCDA funds.

The CreatINg Places program is available to projects located in Indiana communities. Non-profit entities (with 501c3 or 501c4 status) and Local Units of Government are eligible to apply.

Eligible projects must have a minimum total development cost of $10,000, where the recipient will receive $5,000 in IHCDA matching funds should they successfully raise $5,000 through Patronicity. IHCDA will provide matching grant funds up to $50,000 per project.
