Crowdfunding Campaign Launched For The "Kimmell Park Riverfront Playground" In Vincennes

Last updated on Wednesday, April 11, 2018

(INDIANAPOLIS) - Vincennes will soon have a new playground along its historic riverfront, thanks to a recently launched crowdfunding campaign.

The campaign, sponsored by the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority (IHCDA) and offered through the crowdfunding platform developed by Patronicity is being run by the Vincennes University Foundation.

"It is a very exciting time for the city of Vincennes," said Lt. Governor Suzanne Crouch who serves as board chair of IHCDA. "From new sidewalks and streets to a growing downtown, the community has gone through a massive transformation. This project will help continue this momentum by activating a public space through the creation of a new playground."

If the campaign reaches its $50,000 goal by June 8th, 2018, the 'Kimmell Park Riverfront Playground' project will receive a matching grant of $50,000 from IHCDA's CreatINg Places program.

Funding raised during this campaign will allow Vincennes University to continue its revitalization of Kimmell Park, a historic destination along the Wabash River. Last year the university unveiled over $3 million in park improvements, which included a new park entrance, an overlook with scenic stair-step seating leading to the water's edge, park benches, picnic tables, walking trails, and hundreds of newly planted trees. The funding raised from this campaign will be used to add a playground and swing set to these amenities, creating a space in the park specifically for kids and their families.

"Vincennes University is proud to lead yet another project along the Kimmell Park riverfront. A playground is more than just swings and slides - it is a way to bring families together - to bring our community together," said Phil Rath, Vincennes University's Vice President for Financial Services and Government Relations. "There are great things ahead for our region and we are thankful to IHCDA and to Lt. Governor Suzanne Crouch for opportunities such as the CreatINg Places program to further strengthen the quality of life in our community."

Since the CreatINg Places program began last fall, projects have raised in excess of $1,235,000 in public funds and an additional $991,500 in matching IHCDA funds.

The CreatINg Places program is available to projects located in Indiana communities. Non-profit entities (with 501c3 or 501c4 status) and Local Units of Government are eligible to apply.

Eligible projects must have a minimum total development cost of $10,000, where the recipient will receive $5,000 in IHCDA matching funds should they successfully raise $5,000 through Patronicity. IHCDA will provide matching grant funds up to $50,000 per project.
