State Assistance Center Updates: Northern Indiana Centers Concluding Services, Southeastern Indiana Center Opening

(INDIANAPOLIS) - With flood recovery strongly moving forward in northern Indiana, state agencies are announcing that the flood assistance centers in Jasper, Lake and Elkhart counties will be ending operations later this week, and a location will open in southeastern Indiana.

Northern Indiana residents who have questions or unmet concerns can reach out to the State of Indiana Joint Information Center at 317-238-1784.

A Southern Indiana assistance center opens Thursday, March 15 to provide services to flood-affected Indiana residents through Saturday, March 17.

The American Red Cross (ARC) and Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (VOAD) will be on site to deliver basic necessities for those needing food, water or clothing and other essential items. State agencies will have representatives on site to provide immediate assistance and answer questions for those who have suffered a loss, including the Indiana Department of Homeland Security (IDHS), Family and Social Services Administration (FSSA), Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH) and Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority (IHCDA). The Indiana Office of Technology (IOT) and the Indiana State Police (ISP) will be providing additional support.

These state services will be available:

Housing Support - Listing of emergency shelters; listing of temporary housing; emergency housing and short-term rental assistance.

Social Services - Apply for Medicaid (including the Healthy Indiana Plan (HIP), Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP - Food Assistance) and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF -Cash Assistance) benefits. Replacement SNAP benefits for current recipients who have lost food purchased with their benefits, listing of available child care providers; mental health service referrals; mobile feeding; Red Cross and Salvation Army case work.

Public Health Information - Clean up advice and education including mold removal and prevention; vaccination information, including tetanus shots; information regarding free well water testing; access and information to vital records such as birth and death certificates.

Governor Eric J. Holcomb declared a disaster emergency, which currently includes 31 counties - Benton, Carroll, Clark, Crawford, Dearborn, Elkhart, Floyd, Fulton, Harrison, Jackson, Jasper, Jefferson, Kosciusko, Lake, LaPorte, Marshall, Newton, Noble, Ohio, Perry, Porter, Posey, Pulaski, Spencer, St. Joseph, Starke, Switzerland, Wabash, Warren, Warrick and White counties.
