Last updated on Tuesday, February 20, 2018

(AUBURN) - The Indiana State Police is continuing its investigation into the discovery of human skeletal remains which were located on Saturday afternoon in a wooded area west of C&A Tool Engineering in the city of Auburn.

The investigation which is being conducted by Detective David Poe has preliminarily indicated that between 1:30 p.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday afternoon, the skeletal remains of an unknown person were located by someone who was walking in the wooded area.

Due to the level of decomposition, immediate identification of the person was not possible. An autopsy is was performed Monday in Fort Wayne and did not yield any additional clues for investigators to move forward with. The remains will now be sent to a forensic anthropologist in Indianapolis next week for further examination.

This is ongoing investigation and no further information is available at this time.

The Auburn Police Department, the DeKalb County Prosecutor's Office and the DeKalb County Coroner's Office are assisting Poe with this investigation.
