Let Love Burn Wild, But Monitor The Flames This Valentine's Day

(UNDATED) - Romantic dinners by candlelight or a cozy evening spent beside the fireplace can really set the mood for Valentine’s Day. However, neglecting to take preventative measures against potential fire hazards can quickly ruin the experience.

"Valentine's Day should be a fun experience, and planning ahead when using flames is essential," said Indiana State Fire Marshal Jim Greeson. "It is important for people to exercise caution whenever they are dealing with fire."

Marshal Greeson is reminding Hoosiers to keep the spark purely metaphorical this Valentine's Day by practicing the following fire safety tips:

Candles

Fireplaces

Remember, never leave candles or fireplaces unattended. Open flames should always be extinguished before going to bed or leaving the home.

Cooking
