High School Coaches May Be Required To Undergo Heat Exhaustion Prevention Training

Last updated on Friday, February 16, 2018

(INDIANAPOLIS) - Indiana may require high school coaches to undergo training in how to prevent or treat heat exhaustion.

Westfield athletic trainer Tim Drudge says an average of four high school athletes die of heat exhaustion each year.

That's enough to make it the biggest single killer of student-athletes.

The Indiana High School Athletic Association already offers optional training classes on heat-related illnesses.

Chandler Representative and former coach Ron Bacon's bill would make it a second required course for coaches, along with concussion training.
