Eugene & Marilyn Glick Indiana Authors Award Nominations Accepted Feb. 5 To March 16

(INDIANAPOLIS) - The public is again invited to submit nominations for the 10th-annual Eugene & Marilyn Glick Indiana Authors Award, which seeks to inspire Hoosiers’ love of reading by celebrating the written arts in Indiana. Nominations will be accepted from Feb. 5 to March 16, 2018.

"The Glick Fund is excited to celebrate 10 years of the Eugene & Marilyn Glick Indiana Authors Award. My parents would be proud of the ripple effect the Award has had on readers and writers in Indiana," said Marianne Glick, Director at the Eugene & Marilyn Glick Family Foundation. "I look forward to discovering this year's winners and finalists."

The Indianapolis Public Library Foundation sponsors the Award, which honors Indiana authors - those born in Indiana or who lived in Indiana for five consecutive years - whose work has made, or has the potential to make, a lasting public impact. This year, the authors may be nominated in one of three categories, National, Regional or Emerging Author.

"Books open doors and expand minds. We are grateful for the opportunity to celebrate Hoosier authors of award-winning books for the 10th consecutive year," said Roberta Jaggers, President of The Indianapolis Public Library Foundation. "The Glick family's continuous generosity has enabled us to shine a light on the talented authors with ties to our state."

A nine-member, statewide Award panel will select winners from the publicly nominated authors in the following categories:

National Author - $10,000 prize: A writer with Indiana ties, whose work is known and read throughout the country. National authors will be evaluated on their entire body of work.
Regional Author - $7,500 prize: A writer whose work is well-known and enjoyed throughout the state of Indiana. Regional authors will be evaluated on their entire body of work.
Emerging Author - $5,000 prize: A writer who has published no more than two books during his/her lifetime. The title(s) must have been published within the last 10 years. Emerging authors will be evaluated on these specific works.

This year, because it's the 10th anniversary for the Indiana Authors Award, The Indianapolis Public Library Foundation has selected a recipient for the Lifetime Achievement Award in lieu of a Genre Excellence award. The Genre Excellence category will return in 2019.

In addition to a cash prize, each winning author's Indiana hometown public library will receive a grant of $2,500 from the Library Foundation. Since the Award launched in 2009, $77,500 has been donated to 20 public libraries across Indiana.

Nominations are available at www.indianaauthorsaward.org. The nomination process is quick, easy and free. Complete information and eligibility guidelines are included on the nomination forms. Authors nominated in the past five years will be considered again for the 2018 Award. Additional comments for a previously nominated author can be sent to iaa@indyplfoundation.org.

Winners and finalists will be honored on Oct. 13, 2018. The day begins with Meet an Author, Be an Author, a full day of free programming to engage students, readers and writers. In the evening, winners and finalists are honored at a ticketed Award Dinner at Central Library in Indianapolis.

Last year's Award Dinner raised more than $125,000 for the Library Foundation. At the dinner,

Kekla Magoon was recognized as the National Author Winner, Lori Rader-Day was recognized as the Regional Author Winner, John David Anderson was honored as the Genre Excellence - Middle Grade Fiction (Chapter Books) Author Winner, and Francesca Zappia was announced as the Emerging Author Winner.
