Donation Check-Offs Part 1: The Indiana Nongame Wildlife Fund

Last updated on Tuesday, February 6, 2018

(INDIANAPOLIS) - Did you know you can contribute all or part of your state tax refund to three funds in Indiana? Well you can with donation check offs. This will be the first of a three part series on donation check offs. Today, we’ll explore the Loggerhead shrike flying out of hands Indiana Nongame Wildlife Fund.

The Indiana Nongame Wildlife Fund offers taxpayers the opportunity to play an active role in conserving Indiana's nongame and endangered wildlife. This includes over 750 species that are managed and protected using these funds by the Wildlife Diversity Section of the Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR).

From state endangered barn owls and green salamanders to badgers, you're helping important conservation work in Indiana. The work biologists do for these animals is only funded through donations. No state tax dollars are used.

Not only that, but any funds you contribute this year are fully deductible when you itemize your deductions on your federal tax return. If you make a donation, you will be able to claim this year's contribution as a deduction on next year's federal itemized deduction schedule.

Since its inception, the Wildlife Diversity Section has reintroduced bald eagles, peregrine falcons, river otters, and osprey. Today, bald eagles, peregrine falcons and river otters are no longer state-endangered species thanks to the hard work and dedication of these biologists.

To donate, simply fill out Schedule IN-Donate with the name of the fund (Indiana Nongame Wildlife Fund) and the amount you wish to donate. Don't forget to enter the 3-digit code of 200 as the designated code.

If you're not receiving a state refund this year but would like to donate, you can make a donation directly online at EndangeredWildlife.in.gov.
