Last updated on Wednesday, January 10, 2018

(INDIANAPOLIS) - Indiana Republican Party State Chairman Kyle Hupfer officially called a caucus of eligible precinct committee members to fill the vacancy in the office of Senate District 7, the seat most recently held by former State Senator Brandt Hershman.

The caucus will be held at 6:30 p.m. ET on Thursday, January 25, 2018, at the Best Western Plus Brandywine Inn & Suites located at 304 S. 6th Street, Monticello, IN 47960.

On Friday, December 22, 2017, Chairman Hupfer received official communication from Senate President Pro Tempore David Long that State Senator Brandt Hershman planned to resign his seat in the Indiana State Senate effective January 2, 2018. The individual chosen at the January 25th caucus will fill the remainder of former Senator Hershman's term.

"Brandt Hershman was a powerhouse in the Indiana State Senate. His intellect, knowledge and presence will be missed," said Chairman Kyle Hupfer. "As Chairman of the Indiana Republican Party, it is my honor to preside over the caucus to select his replacement and I thank White County Chairman Shannon Mattix for helping to secure the venue."

Individuals interested in running in the caucus should contact the State Party Secretary at secretary@indiana.gop to ensure they file the proper forms prior to the deadline, which is 72 hours prior to the vote. The caucus will be open to credentialed media who pre-register prior to 5:00pm ET on Wednesday, January 24, 2018. A Facebook Live Stream will be available at www.facebook.com/indgop for members of the public who wish to watch the caucus live. More details regarding caucus procedures and candidates will be released after the filing deadline.
