(INDIANAPOLIS) - All six candidates for the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate will come together for their first joint election year appearance at the sold out Congress of Counties event being hosted by the Indiana Republican Party on Friday, January 12, and Saturday, January 13, at the Crowne Plaza in downtown Indianapolis.

More than 500 Hoosiers representing 70 counties are expected over the course of the two-day event, including Governor Eric Holcomb, Lt. Governor Suzanne Crouch, U.S. Senator Todd Young, Secretary of State Connie Lawson, Treasurer Kelly Mitchell, Auditor Tera Klutz and more.

The U.S. Senate candidates - former State Rep. Mike Braun, Andrew Horning, Mark Hurt, Congressman Luke Messer, Congressman Todd Rokita and Andrew Takami - will appear at the closing luncheon on Saturday. Following remarks from each of the candidates, Congress of Counties registrants will have the opportunity to vote in a straw poll indicating which candidate they are most likely to support in the May 8th Indiana Republican Primary.

"Hoosier Republicans are proving, once again, that they are energized and enthusiastic about the 2018 election cycle and the leadership provided by our outstanding Republican elected officials," said Indiana Republican Party State Chairman Kyle Hupfer. "While the currents of history might produce some headwinds, our local party leadership, candidates and volunteers are focused on preparing themselves with the best tools and tactics available in order to achieve more historic wins this year."

He added, "Our U.S. Senate straw poll will provide political watchers with the first grassroots barometer to measure early support in this high-profile, statewide race that has national implications. I am confident that our eventual Republican Party nominee will defeat Democrat Joe Donnelly next November - and events like Congress of Counties will help Hoosiers determine who that candidate will be."
