Last updated on Thursday, January 18, 2018

(INDIANAPOLIS) - Gov. Eric Holcomb will deliver remarks and present his School Choice Week proclamation at the 2018 Institute Quality Education National School Choice Week Breakfast, which will take place 7:30 to 9 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 24 at Shula’s in The Westin Indianapolis.

Additional speakers include Reyna Rodriguez, a former voucher recipient now pursuing an optometry degree Indiana University at Bloomington; Beth Bearman, Reyna's mother, school choice advocate, and former participant in a Huffington Post roundtable; and David McGuire, public charter school principal at Tindley Preparatory Academy in Indianapolis, Teach Plus Policy Fellow, and doctoral candidate for Educational Leadership at Indiana State University.

Also at the event, students from a variety of public and private schools share their stories of school choice with state lawmakers.

This event is planned to coincide with the history-making celebration of National School Choice Week 2018, which will feature more than 32,000 school choice events across all 50 states.

"Every year we look forward to National School Choice Week as a time when we can share the personal stories and highlight the positive impacts that having one of the nation's most robust educational choice environments has brought to Indiana, our communities and our families," said Betsy Wiley, IQE president and CEO. "NSCW allows policymakers to witness firsthand how vitally important these programs are to our students, and provide them with the courage to not only protect the policies currently in place, but to move quickly to expand them so that every child in Indiana can have access to a quality education in the best learning environment."
