Gov. Holcomb Launches The Last Mile Program To Help Prison Inmates Earn Coding Skills

Last updated on Monday, January 15, 2018

(INDIANAPOLIS) - Governor Eric J. Holcomb will join Chris Redlitz, founder of The Last Mile coding program for prison inmates - as well as members of Indiana’s tech community - at an event Tuesday, January 16 in Indianapolis to introduce the program as well as Indiana’s plans to pilot The Last Mile.

Governor Holcomb and Redlitz will be joined by program graduate and co-founder Kenyatta Leal. Upon his release from San Quentin in 2012, Kenyatta began a paid internship at RocketSpace. Since then, he has earned a management position with the San Francisco-based technology campus.

Indiana will be the first state outside of California to adopt the successful coding program. As a part of Gov. Holcomb's Next Level Agenda for 2018, the program will begin training women how to code at the Indiana Women's Prison with the ultimate goal of aligning them with gainful employment in the tech industry upon release.
